This qualification reflects the role of a Security Officer, responsible for maintaining safety and security by patrolling, protecting or guarding property while unarmed, and screening entry, monitoring behaviour and removing of persons from premises.

This qualification is intended to align with the following occupational licensing outcomes.

  • Security Officer – Unarmed Guard
  • Security Officer – Crowd Controller

Occupational titles include:

  • Security Officer
  • Unarmed Guard
  • Crowed controller

It provides a pathway to further learning and work in various security roles and settings including, but not limited to:

  • Armed Guarding
  • Cash-in-Transit
  • Close Protection
  • Control room operations
  • Guard dog handling

Security officers may work alone or work in a team environment under general supervision, operating with limited autonomy and judgement to complete routine but variable tasks, with some accountability and responsibility for their own outputs, work and learning.

Course Duration

This course can be delivered over a range of course durations, depending on the needs and characteristics of the student(s) and their employer(s) where relevant.

The standard course duration is:

• 6 months / 1 year full time; or 

• 12 months / 2 years part time.

5 day block skills assessment every three months out of Brisbane City Campus. Contact us to discuss your learning needs which includes electronic learning resources and theory or hard copy and face to face skills assessment.

Students may complete the program earlier than these timelines through achievement of RPL, credit transfer or competency-based progression through the course, but students who are new to industry will most likely take longer to complete.

Course Delivery

Theory Component
All Theory learning and assessment materials with the exclusion of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid are clustered together to embrace the commonalities. Hard copy resources and knowledge assessment. 

Practical Component
Upon successful completion of all theory components with the exclusion of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid students will book in for Skills Assessment in 5 day block once all Theory has been assessed by Trainer.

Online theory & In-class training with ATA’s First Aid Trainer.

 

 

Entry Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have not been convicted or disqualifying offence in the past 10 years
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold an appropriate Visa to work in Australia
  • Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy(LLN) assessment

Qualifications

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the nationally recognised Australian qualification CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.

Units of Competency

This qualification is based on the licensing requirements to obtain a Security Providers License in QLD, and therefore units within this course cannot be changed.

CPPSEC2102 Apply legal and procedural requirements to work effectively within a security team
CPPSEC2103 Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security
CPPSEC2104 Apply risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations
CPPSEC2105 Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques
CPPSEC2106 Provide security services to clients
CPPSEC2107 Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security
CPPSEC2108 Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security
CPPSEC2109 Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises
CPPSEC2110 Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security
CPPSEC2111 Apply security procedures to manage intoxicated persons
CPPSEC2112 Apply security procedures to remove persons from premises
CPPSEC2113 Escort and protect persons and valuables
HLTAID011 Provide first aid

Outcomes

Successful participants will be eligible to apply to the Office of fair trading for a Class 1 Security Officer Providers License with the license functions:

  • Security Officer (Unarmed)
  • Monitoring (Monitoring no longer requires additional training in order to be added as a function to your security license.)
  • Crowd controller

QLD Security Providers License Applications are processed by the Office of Fair Trading after completing your course.

Fees are payable for the license application, criminal history check and fingerprinting. These fees are not included in the course fee and should be paid separately to the Office of Fair Trading with your license application. Licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards in QLD are required to complete refresher training every 3 years.
